Jean Witter is a NOW leader from Pittsburg, PA. She and Wilma Scott Heide led 20 ERA members to the Senate, where they disrupted proceedings on the 18-year-old vote to demand hearings on the Equal Rights Amendment. Her dedication to ERA inspired her to go to law school at the age of 40 so that her speeches for the ERA would have more weight. An opinion letter she wrote to Congress on the necessity for an extension to the original ERA timeline—a sign that every letter counts!
